The Burnt Hills Oratorio Society (BHOS), Music Director Rand Reeves and Associate Director Susan Hermance Fedak, will hold its fourteenth annual vocal competition for high school (current) Juniors and Seniors in the Capital Region. A cash prize and an opportunity to sing in BHOS’s Fall concert will be awarded to the top two competitors. Applicants need not plan a career in music, but the cash prize is intended to facilitate the continued study of singing.

All applications must be received by April 15, 2012.
Preliminary auditions will be held on Sunday, May 6, at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. They will begin at 2:00 and run for as long as necessary. From these applicants, the four top scores will advance to the finals, which will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2:00 at Skidmore’s Zankel Hall. This will actually be a program of high school choruses and the four Vocal Award finalists. This concert is to be part of the Saratoga Arts Fest; it is expected that there will actually be an audience at this program. The two winners will be announced at the end of the concert. Applicants must be able to sing at both the May 6 preliminaries and the June 9 concert.
At each of the auditions, two works from the traditional classical tradition are to be prepared. Applicants must provide their own accompanist – - taped accompaniments are not allowed.
This initiative of the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society is undertaken to encourage young singers of our area in their study of the art of singing. It is a companion program to BHOS’s Music Mentor Project, in which a select chorus in our region is invited to join us in one or two works during a scheduled concert performance
